Puppet Master: Eowyn
Character Name: Vaeresh
Character Age: 25
Gender: Male
Rank: Noble
Hair: Vaeresh's very dark red-brown hair is coarse and thick, and constantly
full of sand which no amount of headgear seems to be able to keep out. He keeps
it cut very short for convenience, at a thoroughly unflattering uniform length,
and it is usually covered by a scarf, or a hat, or anything that might, just
might keep out the sand.
Eyes: There is almost no contrast at all between Vaeresh's dark irises and the
black of his pupils. His eyes are eerily close to being true ovals, giving him
a very peculiar, almost inhuman appearance, a little like a child's drawing. If
Vaeresh's emotions can't be read from his eyes, his opinions certainly can.
There's a pretty good chance, if he's started squinting at you, that he's
suggesting you're too stupid to be real, and trying to figure out if you're a
mirage or a drink-induced figment of his imagination.
Build: The only truly remarkable feature of Vaeresh's body is his incredibly
even skin tone; even his lips are the same rich brown. He's of average height
and build, and while he's never led an inactive life, physical activity has not
taken up too much of his time, so that there's a soft, inefficient quality to
his physique. There's something inherently unimpressive about him, physically,
which he's learned to use to his advantage. Vaeresh has learned one of the
great secrets of human interaction: if you're unimpressive, you're also
unthreatening, and if you're unthreatening, people start off far more neutrally
disposed towards you, whatever other factors might be part of their initial
reaction.
Face:Vaeresh's eyes are the centre of his face in a way that is almost eerie.
His nose is soft, broad and flat and his hair's absence from his face forces his
brow and eyes front-and-centre. There's nothing actively unattractive about his
features, but he's unsettling to look at...and once he's started on a rant, the
brightness in his eyes tends to eat up everything else.
Dress: Vaeresh has made himself a master of dressing for the occasion, and as he
has such constantly changing interests, he has no habitual attire. Everything
he wears is, however, extremely durable and well-fashioned. Rips, tears, and
wear spots are unthinkable. Also, as noted above, his head is always covered in
hopes of keeping the sand out of his hair.
Personality: Vaeresh has opinions. Lots of them. You might almost say that
opinions were his business, (and he doesn't seem to have much other business.)
He is an almost inappropriately outspoken advocate of all of his opinions. He
knows when it is vital to sit up and shut down, but he considers this option
only in life or death situations. He doesn't particularly like arguments,
because he finds that most people don't thin their opinions through anywhere
near as thoroughly as he does, and is always frustrated to find himself up
against what he calls (oh so politely) "idiot proponents", of opposing views.
Arguments always leave him feeling incredibly upset and unstable, and usually a
bit fuzzy and lightheaded, too.
In addition to opinions, Vaeresh has interests and ideas. His interests are
varied, and they pile up on top of one another, and, unlike other people with
myriad interests, Vaeresh manages to find a little time to spend with all of his
vast catalogue of hobbies and studies regularly.
Ideas, on the other hand, are transitory. One will occur to Vaeresh, he'll
spend a few weeks obsessing at it, wearing it down to its very bones, and then
he'll decide it's a dead end, record everything he's thought out, and shelve the
whole mess for some future rainy day he knows in his heart will never come. The
library of Vaeresh's old ideas contains some twenty different systems of
government and economy he thought more appropriate for Amaranth than the
reality, two plots for epic poems he hasn't the talent to write, and a lot of
other loose debris.
His current obsession is aqueducts, which he's sure would be important if he
could only think of a way to establish the reservoirs...
He has managed to slide through life by being too noticeable for his family to
quietly closet, and too erratic and unpredictable for them to rely on. They
try to keep him quiet, terrified that he'll thoughtlessly commit treason, or
start a revolution, or worst of all, spend family money trying to implement an
idea.
History: Vaeresh really is quite intelligent, and many of his ideas need only a
little polishing, and someone with the drive to implement them, before they'll
be brilliant and helpful.
He's incredibly thorough when he thinks things through, he rarely misses a
contingency or an aspect of a problem, and his keen insight into the way
concepts interact is incredibly helpful when he plans.
He is patient, devoted, and determined, as long as he can be convinced that
something is interesting and/or important. He's very hard to discourage.
He has a wide array of more concrete talents, far too numerous to list, and he
retains information very well.
He's also incredibly open-minded, when he isn't fixed on an opinion, and willing
to entertain new concepts, ideas, and theories without much nudging. He tries
never to approach a new topic with a preconceived notion, preferring to form his
